Portable Appliance Testing - Your Safety in the Workplace

3 Steps to Your Safety

CPAT provides a comprehensive three - step test of your portable appliances:

Step 1: Visual Test
The CPAT Tester first carries out a Visual Inspection on:Mains Lead, Plug and Fuse, Outer Case

Step 2: Electrical Test
If the appliance passes the initial Visual Inspection, the following electrical tests can be carried out:
- Earth Continuity - Earth Screen
- Insulation - Flash (where applicable)
- Substitute Leakage - Load
- Leakage - Touch Leakage
- Polarity

Step 3: Labeling
A bar-coded label is produced on site and is attached to the equipment tested.
The label will show if the appliance has passed or failed. A Test result certificate, which indicates your compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1993 and 2001 is then forwarded to your Health and Safety Officer.

The following information is printed on the label:
- Asset Number - Status (Pass or Fail)
- Tester’s Name - Date of Test
- Date of Next Test.
